Bill Harvey is an American artist, designer and musician based in Brooklyn. Harvey studied at the Corcoran School of Art in the late 1970s, where he was the interlocutor between the D.C. visual art scene and D.C.’s prescient punk scene. He moved to New York in the early eighties where his work appeared in group exhibitions with artists such as Haim Steinbach, Jeff Koons and Gretchen Bender. In 1989 he began designing and manufacturing decorative housewares that were sold by fine retailers worldwide and eventually licensed to Umbra among other leading brands. In 2003 he designed and built his home and studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn which has been featured in Rizzoli’s Brooklyn Modern and the New York Times. He continues to perform in numerous bands and in 2014 he co-founded New York is Music to advocate for the growth and support of New York’s music industry. Since his first one-person show in Annapolis Md., at the age of eighteen, Harvey has exhibited at The Kitchen, Artist’s Space, the Corcoran Gallery and the Menil Collection as well as numerous other venues.
